Citroen Xsara Picasso door sound insulation and speaker replacement
As you may have noticed during your driving experiences with your Xsara Picasso that sound is nothing less than awful.
I decided to do all in one:
- replace all the speakers for 4 x 16,5 of diameter with modification on rear doors (rear speakers are 13cm by the original)
- insulate the doors; 4mm of sound insulator over the silent coat.
- swapped the RL cable polarity
After this modification the doors feels more compact, no thin-sheet sound when closing the doors.
Unfortunately the sound still isn't perfect, but it is a bit better. It’s hard for me to say if only replacement of the speakers would be enough because I did it all together.
I found the main reason is bad sound insulation of all the chassis, not only the doors. The noise coming from outside prevents quality listening to the music on low volumes. Of course the diesel engine makes it even worse.
Pay attention to speakers mounted on rear doors because some series have swapped cable polarity. This kills low specter of the sound.
I advise to check rear speaker's polarity first and after that replace the speakers. Sound insulation of the doors would be do the last on to-do list.
